Best AI agent notch apps for Mac

Stop checking terminal tabs to find the agent waiting on you. These six Mac notch apps put activity from Claude Code, Codex or both where you can see it. Choose based on what you need to answer, and whether you will still be at your desk.

Choose Open Island for a free local starting point, Vibe Island for a paid local workflow, CodeIsland for Apple companions, or Pushary Isle for decisions across the notch and phone with policy and audit. Notchi and Vibe Notch serve more focused workflows.

Disclosure: we build Pushary. This is a review of the linked first-party documentation, not a hands-on benchmark of every current release. Capabilities vary by agent and version; the app names below link to the sources we checked.

Pushary Isle

Decisions at your desk and away from it

Choose Isle when you want a pending decision to reach the Mac notch or your phone, with shared permission policies and an audit trail. The Mac app is included with a Pushary agent plan.

It requires an account and a subscription. If a free local indicator solves your problem, you do not need the paid service. Keep the Mac awake while a local agent runs; a phone connection does not keep a sleeping process working.

Agent coverage: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and other Pushary integrations.

Vibe Island

A paid local app with broad agent and terminal coverage

A strong option for developers who stay at their Mac and value terminal jump-back, usage visibility and remote SSH sessions. Its one-time licence makes it cheaper than an ongoing subscription for that workflow.

Check its support for the exact interaction you need: monitoring an agent does not establish that every approval or question can be answered. After the included update year, the purchased version keeps working; further updates require optional renewal.

Agent coverage: 30 advertised agents, including Claude Code and Codex.

Open Island

A free, open-source local control surface

Open Island is a practical starting point if you want a native Mac companion without a subscription. Its documentation distinguishes provider integrations, including Codex CLI and desktop lifecycle support.

Read the provider table before assuming parity: some integrations forward events without a permission round-trip. A supported-agent logo is not a promise that every action can be approved.

Agent coverage: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, OpenCode and more.

CodeIsland

Open-source monitoring with Apple device companions

CodeIsland is worth trying if you want Mac sessions on an iPhone or Apple Watch. Its Buddy documentation includes phone approvals and answers, with same-Wi-Fi pairing, local-network snapshots and Bluetooth summaries.

Do not confuse the nearby Buddy connection with internet access from anywhere. It also documents external push channels; verify whether your chosen channel only alerts you or returns the answer your agent needs.

Agent coverage: 30+ advertised coding tools.

Notchi

Animated Claude Code and Codex awareness

Notchi makes concurrent sessions easy to notice through animated mascots. Its documentation covers Claude Code and Codex events, provider usage and optional sounds. It is a good shortlist entry when visible activity matters more than a large control panel.

The documented requirements include macOS 15 and a notched MacBook. Optional prompt-sentiment analysis uses Anthropic or OpenAI APIs, so assess that separately from basic local monitoring.

Agent coverage: Claude Code and Codex.

Vibe Notch / Claude Island

A focused Claude Code companion

Previously called Claude Island, Vibe Notch is a narrower option for people who mainly use Claude Code. Its published features include approving or denying tools from the notch, viewing conversation history and installing hooks automatically.

The README requires macOS 15.6 or newer and Claude Code CLI. Choose a broader app if Codex support is essential; do not mistake this Claude-focused app for a universal agent monitor.

Agent coverage: Claude Code CLI.

Do you need a notch app or just a notification?

For one terminal and a completion sound, start with the native alert or a small hook. A notch app becomes useful when you need to distinguish sessions or respond without finding the right terminal. Phone access matters when you leave the desk.

What to check before switching

Try a completed turn, a permission request and a question in your actual agent and terminal. Confirm where each appears and where you can answer. Test an external display if you use one. Review installed hooks before switching, remove the old app through its own uninstall flow, and check that a single request produces a single decision.

For phone workflows, test away from the Mac and outside its Wi-Fi network. A nearby companion, a one-way push and a remote approval are different capabilities. Check the data sent off-device and keep the agent host awake.

Your agent should not wait for you to find its tab.

Try Pushary Isle when you want the decision in your notch at the desk and on your phone when you step away. Included with your agent plan. A Pushary account is required.
